Women’s Basketball Tames Huskies, 83-59, in Season Opener

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team began its first season as a member of Conference USA with a 83-59 win over the Bloomsburg Huskies Monday night inside the Bob Carpenter Center. The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 1-0, while the Huskies drop to 0-1. Delaware moves to 3-1 in season openers under Sarah Jenkins.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware held Bloomsburg to 21.9-percent shooting from the floor in the first half.
- The Hens shot 41.2-percent from beyond the arc on the night.
- Trinity Vance led the team with 15 points in her first-career game.
- Lay Fantroy scored in double figures in her first game as a Hen, putting up 14 points with eight rebounds. It was her 37th career game with 10 or more points.
- Kendall Scott scored 11 points in her UD debut, her 11th-career double-figure showing.
- Kailah Correa dropped 11 points in her collegiate debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware went on a 9-0 run over the first 3:34 of the season, highlighted by a pair of threes from Scott and Grace Sundback. For the final 2:29 of the frame, the Huskies went scoreless, leaving the score 20-9 in favor of the Hens at the end of the first.
- At the second quarter media stoppage, the Blue & Gold led 22-11 with 6:51 to play in the half. A 12-2 stretch in 4:02 for UD made it 36-15 with 1:53 left in the second quarter. The Blue Hens took a 40-17 advantage into the locker room at the break.
- A 7-0 run for the Huskies led to a Delaware timeout with 4:18 left in the third frame with the Hens leading by 21. The end of the third quarter saw Delaware take a 60-39 lead into the final stanza.
- The Hens led 71-49 at the game's final media timeout with 4:36 to go. UD closed out Bloomsburg for an 83-59 final.
GAME NOTES
- UD improved to 34-6 when leading after three quarters under Jenkins.
- The Blue & Gold jumped to 31-5 when scoring 70 or more points under Jenkins.
- Delaware improved to 23-7 when allowing less than 60 points under Jenkins.
- The Hens moved to 36-13 when outshooting their opponents under Jenkins.
- Six players played their first game as a Blue Hen: Claudia Clement, Correa, Fantroy, Safi Kolliegbo, Scott, and Vance.
- Two players played in their first-collegiate game: Correa and Vance.
