Fantroy Records Double-Double as Women’s Basketball’s Comeback Bid Against Navy Falls Short

NEWARK, Del. – Lay Fantroy notched her first double-double as a Fightin' Blue Hen as the University of Delaware women's basketball team's comeback attempt against Navy fell short, 68-61, Friday evening inside the Bob Carpenter Center. The Hens drop to 1-1, while the Mids jump to 1-0.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware held Navy to 25-percent from beyond the arc.
- Fantroy tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth-career double-double. Eleven of her points came from the charity stripe, a career-best that tied the most free throws made by a single player under Sarah Jenkins.
- Kailah Correa scored a career-best 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. She added four rebounds and two assists.
- Safi Kolliegbo rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points, going 6-for-9 from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kolliegbo got the scoring started right away for Delaware, driving to the hoop for the game's first two points just 15 seconds in. The Hens took an 8-6 advantage into the first media stoppage with 4:37 left in the opening frame. Navy went on a 8-0 run over 3:21 to take a 12-8 lead with 1:53 left in the first, holding the Blue & Gold to 4:34 of scoreless basketball before Vance ended the drought from the charity stripe bringing it back to a one-score game. The Mids took a 14-12 advantage into the second quarter.
- At the second quarter media timeout, Navy led 26-20 with 4:40 left in the opening half. UD endured a scoreless stretch of 3:09 before Fantroy knocked down a pair of free throws to bring it back to within double digits. The road team took a 37-23 lead into the halftime locker room.
- Delaware held Navy without a field goal for 3:44, but still trailed by double digits at the third quarter media timeout. The Hens went on a 9-0 run over 2:55 to end the third quarter, including a personal 7-0 stretch for Correa, making it a 52-40 Navy lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- After trailing by 21 points in the third quarter, Delaware kept fighting to claw its way back with Navy leading 54-45 at the fourth quarter media timeout with 5:49 to go. Delaware made its last three field goals trailing by eight with 2:20 left. A 6-0 run by Delaware over 1:16 cut it 63-59 with just over one minute to go in regulation. UD used its final timeout with 39 ticks left down 66-61. Navy held on for a 68-61 final despite Delaware holding it without a bucket for the final 2:36.
