Women’s Basketball Scores Most Points in Jenkins Era, Defeats Towson 91-80

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team topped former conference rival Towson, 91-80, Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center with the most points scored under fourth-year head coach Sarah Jenkins. The Fightin' Blue Hens advance to 4-2, while the Tigers dip to 4-4.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Trinity Vance scored a game-high 13 points at the half on her way to her first-career 20+ point outing. She finished with 23 on a 9-of-13 shooting performance, including 2-of-4 from long range.
- Lay Fantroy notched her eighth-career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
- Ande'a Cherisier scored double digits for the 37th time in her career and added a career-high 12 rebounds for her third-ever double-double.
- Kailah Correa scored 17 points to go with a career-best five assists.
- Ella Wanzer rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, her 42nd time scoring 10+ points.
- The 91 points scored were the most points scored under Jenkins, surpassing the 88 scored against Colgate on November 29, 2024.
- Delaware scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, tying the most under Jenkins with the 30-point fourth quarter against Illinois on November 26, 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Towson led 14-11 at the game's first media timeout with 3:11 left in the first quarter, despite a game-high seven points from Cherisier up to that point. The first frame ended with the Tigers leading the Hens 21-19.
- A 6-0 run for Towson in 1:17 heading into the second quarter media timeout left a 33-24 lead for the visitors with 5:53 left in the half. Delaware responded with an 8-4 stretch that led to a Towson timeout with 2:40 to go in the first half. UD held the Tigers scoreless for 3:27 while scoring eight-consecutive points to cut it to a one-point game. The road team took a 42-38 advantage into the locker room at the break.
- A Wanzer three for UD evened the game at 50 with 4:49 to go in the third. Delaware took its first lead since 5:55 of the first quarter at 3:47 of the third leading 52-50. After outscoring Towson in the frame 23-17, the Blue & Gold led 61-59 heading into the fourth.
- Delaware went on a 6-0 run in 1:16 to take a 77-72 advantage into the fourth quarter media timeout with 4:45 to play in regulation. The run grew to 14-0 for the Hens over 3:10 to increase the UD lead to double digits. Delaware continued to hold the advantage to close out the win.
GAME NOTES
- This was the first game of the season that UD did not score first.
- Delaware had a season-high five players score in double figures. It moved to 11-1 when five players scored in double figures under Jenkins.
