BOSTON – University of Delaware ice hockey freshman defenseman Lexie Lonask has been named the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. It is the first-ever weekly award for Lonask and recognizes her performance in UD's series at RV/RV Mercyhurst this past weekend.
Lonask scored her first-career goal on Friday, sniping a shot from just inside the blue line with three seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game. It gave the Fightin' Blue Hens a point in the AHA standings. The Chandler, Arizona native was also a force on the defensive end, blocking a career-high 10 shots. She added nine more blocks on Saturday and now has a nation-leading 56 blocked shots on the season.
It is the second weekly award of the season for the Blue Hens as Katelynn Charlton was named the AHA Rookie of the Week after the program's first win over Holy Cross.
UP NEXT
Delaware will head back out on the road as the squad steps out of conference play with a trip to Brown for a two-game series. Puck drop on Saturday is set for 3 p.m., while Sunday's opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
