Cherisier Registers Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Falls to La Salle

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team dropped a 65-48 decision to La Salle on Wednesday morning in an Education Day matchup at the Bob Carpenter Center. With the setback, the Fightin' Blue Hens fall to 5-4 on the season, while the Explorers move to 8-3 overall.

The Fightin' Blue Hens will travel to Philadelphia to compete in the Hawk Classic, hosted by Saint Joseph's University on December 20-21. The Hens will open the tournament against Akron at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20 and will play either Le Moyne or Saint Joseph's on Sunday, December 21. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans can listen locally on Fox Sports 1290.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Ande'a Cherisier led the Blue Hens with team highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Lay Fantroy finished with 10 points to go along with three steals and a block on the defensive end in her return to the starting lineup.
- Safi Kolliegbo rounded out those in double figures with 10 points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- La Salle used a couple of big runs to jump out to a double-digit lead, but four-straight points by Cherisier cut Delaware's deficit to 19-12 after the first quarter.
- The Blue Hens used a 7-0 run, sparked by Arantxa Portalez and Kolliegbo, late in the second quarter to bring Delaware within single digits at halftime, 32-23.
- UD went on pair of runs in the third quarter, including a 7-0 streak late in the frame fueled by a pair of Trinity Vance baskets, sandwiched around a Fantroy three-point play, but two late baskets extended the Explorers' lead to 49-38 after three quarters.
- Delaware was unable to mount a comeback in the final frame as La Salle pulled away for the 65-48 final score.
GAME NOTES
- Cherisier posted her fifth career double-double, and third in the past four games.
- Fantroy has now reached double figures scoring in seven of her eight games played this season.
- Vance made her first-career start.
- The 3,605 fans was the largest crowd UD has played in front of since it defeated Colgate on November 19, 2024.
