Cousins Tallies First-Career Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Erases 17-Point Deficit to Beat UNCW

NEWARK, Del. – Tara Cousins tallied her first-career double-double as the University of Delaware women's basketball team erased a 17-point deficit to beat UNCW, 72-67 on Friday. The Blue Hens won their second-consecutive contest to improve to 6-14 (3-7 CAA), while the Seahawks fell to 12-11 (6-4 CAA).

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware erased a 17-point first-half deficit
- UD outscored UNCW 28-12 in the third quarter
- Cousins earned her first-career double-double, dropping 12 points with a career-high 11 dimes.
- Rebecca Demeke posted her fifth-straight game in double figures, scoring 11 points.
- Ande'a Cherisier put up double-digit points in the first half, totaling 13 for the game to go with six boards.
- Ella Wanzer recorded 13 points, including a 3-for-7 night from beyond the arc.
- Chloe Wilson totaled 10 points and eight rebounds, making her the fifth Blue Hen in double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seahawks jumped out to an early 8-0 start in 1:08. UNCW outpaced UD 28-14 in the first frame.
- At the second quarter media timeout, the road team held a 13-point advantage with 4:34 to go in the half. The Hens were able to cut the deficit to single digits, but they headed into the locker room down 39-30.
- Delaware went on a torrid stretch midway through the third, outscoring its opponent 19-2 over 4:12 to take a 56-49 lead. During the Hens scoring onslaught, the Seahawks were held scoreless for the final 6:11 of the frame.
- The Blue & Gold continued to prey on the Seahawks in the fourth quarter, scoring eight unanswered points over 3:06 to open a 13-point lead. The fourth quarter was back-and-forth in terms of scoring, but the Hens held the edge they set in the third quarter.
GAME NOTES
- UD has now won 10-consecutive games against UNCW
- Tonight's output marked Cherisier's 12th game in double figures for the year
- The Blue & Gold improve to 5-2 when they have at least four scorers in double-digits
