Cousins Plays Second-Most Minutes in Program History as Women’s Basketball Outlasts Hofstra in Double-Overtime, 73-65

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Tara Cousins played the second-most minutes in a game in program history as the University of Delaware women's basketball team outlasted Hofstra, 73-65, in double-overtime. The Blue Hens have now won three-straight games, improving to 7-14 (4-7 CAA), while the Pride fell to 9-13 (4-7 CAA).

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware forced 15 first-half turnovers.
- Cousins scored 21 points on 8-of-15 from the floor with six rebounds and four assists in 49 minutes played. Her 49 minutes are the second-most in program history behind Elena Della Donne's 50 on January 17, 2010.
- Chloe Wilson posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Ande'a Cherisier had a 12-point afternoon to go with four assists and three boards.
- Ella Wanzer also scored in double figures, tallying 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cherisier scored all six points for the Hens by the initial media timeout, with UD leading 6-5 with 4:50 to go in the first quarter. The Blue & Gold led 13-10 after one.
- The second quarter saw the teams trade buckets for the first 3:39 of the frame with the score sitting at 20-17 in favor of Delaware at the media stoppage. Hofstra scored 11-unanswered points over 4:22 to take a four-point lead. Jiya Perry hit a half-court heave to beat the buzzer in the first half for a 27-26 UD lead.
- Delaware's defense stifled the Pride to begin the second half. For the first 5:06 of the quarter, the Hens held Hofstra to six points while forcing five turnovers. Hofstra came back to tie it at 43 heading into the final frame.
- UD led 51-47 at the fourth quarter media timeout with 4:46 to play. The Hens called timeout up 56-54 with 41 ticks left in regulation. After the Hens called timeout up two points with the ball, Hofstra got a held ball with 15 seconds to go, giving the Pride a chance to tie. Hofstra hit a layup with less than one second remaining in regulation to tie the game at 56 and send the game to overtime.
- Both teams struggled to score in the first overtime period, as they went over two minutes without a field goal. With 39.4 seconds left, Cousins put Delaware in front 61-60 after going to the free-throw line. Hofstra tied it at 61, going one of two at the line and sending the game to double-overtime.
- Delaware outscored Hofstra 12-4 in the stanza to take the game in double-overtime.
GAME NOTES
- Sunday was the Hens' first double-overtime game since November 25, 2017, against Saint Peter's.
- It was the first OT victory for Delaware since March 23, 2023, and the first on the road since January 9, 2022.
- Delaware is 9-1 in the last 10 matchups versus Hofstra.
- The Blue & Gold improve to 6-2 when they have at least four scorers in double-digits.
