Rowing Sweeps La Salle on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – University of Delaware rowing earned a clean sweep of all four races against the La Salle Explorers Saturday morning.

The windy conditions added a good challenge for the rowers and coxswains down the course. There was a significant headwind from the southwest of 15 miles per hour with gusts at 24 miles per hour.

ON THE RECORD

"I thought the racing went really well," Meaghan Leahy said as part of the Varsity Eight boat. "It was a really great way to end a hard week of training, and I think the work we did over spring break prepared us for today. We have a great foundation for a fun season!"

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

The Varsity 4 and Second Varsity 4 both jumped out ahead and won by significant margins.
In the Second Varsity 8, Delaware was ahead off the start and built its lead through the first-half of the race, before closing the door in the third 500.
The First Varsity 8 was the tightest race with both crews within a few seats off the start. UD was up by a length in the second 500, then sat coxswain on stern pair for a hundred meters before getting bow to stern with a powerful move through the 1000-meter mark. In the third 500, the Blue Hens defended several stabs from La Salle before clearing open water in the closing 500 meters.
