Baseball Defeats Penn State in Midweek Contest

For the Blue Hens, this is their second win of the season on the road against a Big Ten opponent, dating back to Feb. 26 when they defeated Maryland 13-10.
The last time the Blue Hens defeated the Nittany Lions was back on March 19, 2017, by a score of 8-0 at Bob Hannah Stadium. It was the third game of a three-game series, which resulted in a series sweep.
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 19-16.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Aaron Graeber and LT Cockrill led the way for the Blue Hens offensively. Graeber went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, and three RBI's. Cockrill was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.
- UD also had multiple hits from Aiden Stewart (2-for-3, 2 2B, RBI), and Andrew Amato (2-for-4, RBI).
- All nine Blue Hens starters got on base at least once and drove in at least one run.
- Starting on the mound was Jonah Richardson. In relief was Justin Needles, Ryan McLaughlin and Ben Moyzan. The four pitchers allowed three runs off five hits, struck out nine batters in seven innings on the mound. Needles was credited with the win, he is 3-0 on the season.
- The Blue Hens did the majority of their damage offensively in the third and sixth innings.
- In the third, Stewart tied the game with an RBI double. Evan Bouldin gave the Blue Hens the lead with a two-run single. Cockrill's RBI double gave the Blue Hens a 4-1 lead.
- Amato started the sixth inning rally with an RBI single. Tanner Donati got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Matthew Minckler and Brett Lesher both drove in a run off a single, and Graeber had a three-run triple to end the rally. UD had a 12-3 lead after the sixth inning.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens return to Bob Hannah Stadium for a three-game series against North Carolina A&T from April 18-20. It is the start of eight straight home games.
