NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball has added transfer Jameel Brown, who is set to join the roster this fall, head coach Martin Ingelsby announced Friday.
"We are excited to welcome Jameel to our basketball program," Ingelsby said. "He brings good size and versatility to our already competitive group and his shooting ability adds another weapon to the perimeter. I'm looking forward to getting him to campus this summer to continue to develop his talent."
The Philadelphia, Pa. native lands at Delaware after spending two years at Penn State and one at Temple. After signing with the Nittany Lions out of high school, Brown appeared in 14 games as a true freshman, tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds in limited minutes. As a sophomore, the 6-4 guard averaged 4.0 points in 10.1 minutes per game across 27 contests. Following his time in Happy Valley, he returned home to Philadelphia last season, playing in eight games for the Owls, averaging 5.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.
As a freshman at Haverford School, Brown guided his team to a 28-0 record, capped off by Inter-AC and PAISAA Championships. After three successful seasons at Haverford and being named First Team All-State as a junior, Brown played his senior season at Westtown School. He was named a finalist for Pennsylvania Mr. Basketball, First Team All-State and team co-MVP after averaging 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, and knocking down 65 3-pointers during senior season at Westtown. Brown scored 31 points in the PAISAA semifinals, and helped guide Westtown to the PAISAA State Championship title.
At the time of his high school signing, Brown was the No. 6 all-time ranked signee in the history of Penn State basketball according to the 247 Sports Composite Ranking.
