Delaware Announces Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025

NEWARK, Del. – The Department of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation will induct Kevin Blackhurst, Joseph Carbone, Jennifer Coyne, Patrick Devlin, Timothy Morrissey, and Laurie Tortorelli into its Hall of Fame as the Class of 2025, the department announced Wednesday.
The Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame, which originated in 1997, was established to honor outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and administrators who have contributed to UD's athletic tradition of excellence. Nearly 200 Blue Hens have been inducted into the hall of fame.
The invitation-only induction ceremony will take place on Friday, September 12, and the group will be introduced at halftime of the football game on Saturday, September 13 against UConn. Those wishing to celebrate the induction of the honorees should plan to do so at the football game. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting bluehens.com/fbtickets.
KEVIN D. BLACKHURST
Men's Basketball (1989-1993)
Baseball (1992-1994)
A rare two-sport standout at Delaware, Kevin Blackhurst is the only athlete in UD history to participate in the NCAA Tournament in both basketball and baseball the same year. He captained both teams as a senior and was named 1994 UD Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year. A native of Franklin, Pa. and a 1994 Delaware graduate, Kevin led the UD Basketball team to a four year record of 81-38 (.681) that included North Atlantic Conference Titles & NCAA Tournament appearances in both 1991-92 (27-4) and 1992-93 (22-8). The combo guard was named the NAC Tournament MVP in 1993 and finished his career ranked in the All-Time UD Top 10 for three pointers (3rd/91), games played (4th/111) and steals (7th/124). Kevin was a three year member of the Baseball team and batted .386 for his career (No. 7 at UD). As a two-year starting centerfielder (93 & 94) he led the team to a mark of 69-34 (.669) and a 1994 NAC Regular season title (41-13). He was a NABC All-East and All NAC Selection in both 1993 & 1994 and recorded a NAC leading .403 Batting Average in 1993 and hit .371 in 1994.
JOSEPH N. "JOE" CARBONE
Football (1970-1972)
One of the most dominating pass-rushers in Delaware's illustrious football history, Joe "White Shoes" Carbone was a defensive catalyst for teams that captured back-to-back national championships in 1971-72 under Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond. A native of Old Westbury, N.Y. and a 1973 UD graduate, Joe was a three-year standout at defensive end who led Delaware to an incredible record of 29-3 in 1970-72, including capturing AP/UPI small college national titles in 1971 (10-1) and 1972 (11-0), three Lambert Cup trophies (top team in the East), and two Boardwalk Bowl victories. During that period, Delaware's defense held opponents under 10 points 16 times and posted six shutouts. He dominated as a senior in 1972 when he earned first team Associated Press All-American honors, was named the ECAC Eastern Co-Player of the Year, and was selected Defensive Player of the Year by both the Newark and Wilmington Touchdown Clubs. He recorded 136 tackles and recovered six fumbles during his career and was selected to the Delaware Football All-Time Team in 1989.
JENNIFER E. "JEN" COYNE
Field Hockey (1983-1986)
Women's Lacrosse (1984-1987)
One of Delaware's top two-sport stars of the 1980's, Jen Coyne led both the field hockey and lacrosse teams to impressive success during her stellar career in 1983-87. A seven-time letter-winner, she led the two teams to a combined overall record of 89-48-3 (.646), a mark of 37-5-1 (.872) in conference play, four conference titles, four runner-up finishes, an NCAA Tournament third place finish, and consistent national Top 20 rankings. A native of Newtown Square, Pa. and a 1987 UD graduate, Jen was a four-year standout in field hockey for Hall of Fame coach Mary Ann Hitchens, starting 59 career games, scoring 10 goals as a defensive player, twice earning All-ECC honors, as well as Regional All American honors her junior year. She led the team to 49 wins, including an ECC Tournament title in 1985. In lacrosse, she scored 109 goals with 53 assists, earned All-ECC and All-Region honors, helping the team earn a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships for Hall of Fame coach Janet Smith in 1984. She served as co-captain of the 1987 lacrosse team that went 12-5, winning its third straight ECC title.
PATRICK R. "PAT" DEVLIN
Football (2009-2010)
Pat Devlin established himself as not only one of the nation's top quarterbacks, but one of the best that ever played the position for the Blue Hens. A native of Downingtown, Pa. and a 2011 UD honors graduate, Pat transferred from Penn State and made an immediate impact, leading the Blue Hens to a combined record of 18-8 and an NCAA national runner-up finish in 2010. After throwing for 2,664 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior in 2009, Pat enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever for a UD signal-caller in 2010 when he threw for 3,302 yards and 22 touchdowns, led the NCAA in passing rating, was a consensus first team All-American, earned CAA and ECAC Eastern Player of the Year honors, was a finalist for the FCS National Player of the Year Award, played in the East-West Shrine Game, and was named the UD Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year. He led the 2010 team to a 12-3 record, the CAA title, and a national FCS runner-up finish. He took part in the NFL Combine in 2011 and had a five-year NFL career. He remained locally and serves as an analyst on UD football broadcasts.
TIMOTHY J. "TIM" MORRISSEY

Few administrators in University of Delaware athletics history have had as much positive impact on the success of thousands of Blue Hen student-athletes as Tim Morrissey. Over a span of 32 years, Tim served tirelessly in the UD Athletics Academic Support Services office, the last 22 years as director of student services for athletes. A 1991 honors graduate of Widener University where he was a standout basketball player, and a 1995 UD master's graduate, Tim and his staff are responsible for counseling and advising all University of Delaware student-athletes on academic, athletic, career, and personal issues. A native of New Castle, Del., he founded and coordinated the highly-successful H.E.N.S. (Helping Each Newcomer Succeed) peer mentoring program, a program in which upper class UD student-athletes work closely with incoming freshmen student-athletes in helping them adjust to college life, athletics, and academics. He also taught a Freshman Seminar course for student-athletes, and worked with coaches, administrators, faculty, and parents regarding student-athletes and their academic progress.
LAURIE A. TORTORELLI
Women's Lacrosse (1999-2002)
One of the top goalkeepers in Delaware women's lacrosse history, Laurie Tortorelli was a force between the pipes for the Blue Hens in 1999-2002. Laurie was a four-year starter, earned all-conference honors twice, was a three-time all-region selection, was named to the league all-tournament team three times, and garnered IWLCA All-American notice as a senior in 2002 when she also played in the North-South Senior All-Star Game. A native of Havertown, Pa. and a 2002 UD honors graduate, she led the Blue Hens to a 13-5 record and the America East title in 1999 when she was named the league's Rookie of the Year. A year later, she helped the team post a record of 13-5, earn a No. 7 national ranking, and advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2000. She played in 69 career games and recorded 754 saves (No. 2 all-time at UD), a .560 save pct. (No. 5), a 9.43 goals allowed average (No. 5), and 3,767 minutes played (No. 3). She posted 10 or more saves in a game 38 times during her career. The wife of UD men's lacrosse head coach Ben DeLuca, she served as an assistant coach at Duke and Cornell after her playing days.
