Field Hockey Reveals 2025 Schedule
7/30/2025 11:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware field hockey program has announced its 2025 schedule, head coach Tara Zollinger announced Wednesday. The Fightin' Blue Hens will play an independent schedule this fall as the department diligently works to find a conference affiliation. As an independent team, UD will still be eligible for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
This will be the squad's first season with Zollinger at the helm, who assumed the role after leading Division II Shippensburg University for seven seasons to a 118-25 record, including winning three national championships.
Â
The Hens will compete against five teams this upcoming season who were ranked in the final 2024 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, including the defending national champions.Â
Â
UD will open the season with two home contests at Fred P. Rullo Stadium, hosting Temple (Aug. 29) and the University of California (Aug. 31).Â
Â
The team's first road contest under Zollinger will be at Penn State on September 5 and will be followed by a three-game homestand.
Â
During the time in Newark, the Blue & Gold will take on Kent State (Sept. 12), Bucknell (Sept. 14), and the defending national champions, Northwestern (Sept. 19).
Â
Delaware will then head north for two road contests against squads from Pennsylvania in Lock Haven (Sept. 21) and 2024 Division I runners-up Saint Joseph's on September 24.Â
Â
The game against the Bald Eagles will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1980, predating the NCAA's sponsorship of field hockey.
Â
After returning home, the Blue Hens will host William & Mary (Sept. 26) and Ohio State (Sept. 28).
Â
UD will take on two former CAA foes on the road to start October, traveling to Towson (Oct. 3) and Drexel (Oct. 5).
Â
The Hens will continue the month playing back-to-back Sunday contests, one in Winston Salem, N.C., against Wake Forest (Oct. 12), and will return home to host Old Dominion (Oct. 19).
Â
The home stretch continues as UD will take on American (Oct. 26) and face off against Lafayette in a Halloween afternoon matinee for their final two home games of the campaign.
Â
Delaware will wrap up its regular-season action at Penn on November 2.
Â
