Late Game Heroics Leads To Women's Soccer Win Over Bucknell

NEWARK, Del. – A late second half goal propels the University of Delaware women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Sunday at Grant Stadium.
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record improves to 2-0.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Both Maggie Groh and Taisiya Reid scored goals for the Blue Hens. The juniors both scored goals in the first two games of the season.
- Groh's goal was assisted by Calista Collins. It was her first career assist.
- Starting in net was Sophia Hall. She collected two saves on the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Groh's goal came in the 23rd minute of the first half. She received a pass from Collins, turned, and sprinted by multiple Bison defenders. She blasted her shot past the diving goalkeeper in the top left corner of the net.
- After Bision tied the game in the second half, Reid played hero ball in the 86th minute. Groh had a shot deflected off the post, but the ball found Reid in the right place at the right time as she scored in the bottom left part of the net.
GAME NOTES
- The 2-0 record marks the best to a regular season under third year Head Coach Kelly Lawrence.
- Groh scored her team-leading third goal of the season. Heading into the 2025 season, she scored three goals through her first two seasons.
- Reid's goal was her second of the season. She had one career goal heading into the 2025 year.
- The last time the Blue Hens started the season 2-0 was in the spring of 2021 when the Blue Hens defeated George Mason and Delaware State
- The Blue Hens are now 3-0-1 all-time against Bucknell and earned their first win over the Bison since 1991.
UP NEXT
The women's soccer program hits the road and travels to Fairfax, Va. For a non-conference game against George Mason on Thursday, August 21.
