Football Outlasts UConn 44-41 in OT for First FBS Win as an FBS Program

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- QB Nick Minicucci went 23-of-34 for 265 yards and a touchdown in the air. He also added a career-high three rushing touchdowns. The signal-caller secured a career-long pass of 68 yards, upending his previous record of 67 yards, set last week at Colorado.
- RB Jo Silver ran the ball 15 times for a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns, recording his first-career 100-yard and 150-yard games. This was highlighted by Delaware's longest play from scrimmage on the day, a 70-yard rush to the endzone.
- WR Kyre Duplessis tallied his first-career 100-yard and 150-yard receiving outing, reeling in nine catches for 161 yards. He also registered the longest reception of his career at 68 yards.
- S KT Seay notched a career-best 13 tackles, nearly doubling his previous-high of seven set last week at Colorado.
- After halting UConn's opening possession, the Hens drove 73 yards in seven plays, capped off by a three-yard rushing touchdown by Minicucci to jump out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
- The Huskies answered with a 51-yard rushing touchdown by RB Cam Edwards to even the game at seven apiece with 8:48 left in the opening frame.
- Silver found paydirt from 70-yards out on the ground, putting UD back in front 14-7 with 8:06 left in the first.
- UConn tacked on a 28-yard field goal before the Blue & Gold made it 21-10 with 12:54 to go in the second quarter thanks to Minicucci's second rushing touchdown of the game.
- The Huskies cut the Delaware lead to 21-17 with a 31-yard rushing touchdown by RB Victor Rosa with 10:08 to go in the first half.
- UConn took its first lead of the game on Edwards' second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from two yards out to go up 24-21 with 7:17 left in the second quarter.
- A quick 68-yard strike from Minicucci to Duplessis put the Hens back in front 28-24 with 5:55 left in the second quarter.
- The first score of the second half came from a 10-yard UConn touchdown pass to put the Huskies up 31-28.
- Delaware took the lead back on Silver's second rushing touchdown of the game, making it 35-31.
- On fourth-and-goal, UConn found the endzone to go back in front 38-35.
- As time expired in regulation, K Nate Reed knocked in a career-long 43-yard field goal to knot the game at 38 and send it to overtime.
- In the first possession of the overtime period, UConn added a field goal to make it 41-38.
- Delaware took advantage of its extra-time chance with Minicucci scoring his third rushing touchdown of the game to seal the victory for UD.
- This is the first time a Blue Hen has rushed for 150+ yards and another had 150+ receiving yards since Omar Cuff (189 rush yards) and Mark Duncan (157 receiving yards) on November 10, 2007 in 62-56 5OT loss vs Richmond.
- Delaware rushed for 200 or more yards as a team (247) for the first time since its 299 against Campbell last season. That same game is also the last time the Blue Hens put up 40 or more points on offense.
- UD played its first-overtime game since September 7, 2019, when it defeated Rhode Island, 44-36 in triple-overtime on the road. This was the first-home overtime bout for the Hens since October 21, 2017, when they defeated Richmond, 42-35, in double-overtime.
- Delaware is now riding a six-game winning-streak over the Huskies dating back to 1989.
- The Blue & Gold have now won four-consecutive overtime games.
The Blue Hens will head to Miami to take on FIU in their first Conference USA clash on Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+.
