Volleyball Caps Off Non-Conference Play With Win Over Saint Peter's

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Saint Peter's in four sets (25-19, 25-19, 28-30, 25-17) on Sept. 20 to close out the Delaware Invitational and non-conference play. Five different players set career-highs in multiple categories.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Anna Logan Gillens starred for Delaware with 19 kills, six blocks, and hit .381.
Dylan Norris had another impressive showing with 15 kills and hit .414 with three blocks.
Jayda Redd tallied eight kills, 10 digs, and three blocks.
Asia Murray contributed seven kills and seven blocks.
Morgan Campbell had seven kills and four blocks.
Kennedi Inman and Aubrey Lyssy combined for 55 assists, with Inman having 25 and Lyssy having 20. Lyssy also added 15 digs while Inman added 11.
Cadence Nguyen finished with 22 digs, nine assists, and an ace.
Fiona Rigby had 13 digs and two aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

UD took a quick 9-3 lead early in the match. Saint Peter's came back to take a 10-9 lead, and the score remained even at 14.
Delaware pulled away with four-straight points late in the set to go up 23-17, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Murray, and take a 1-0 lead.
Norris and Murray both had four kills in the set. Lyssy (seven) and Inman (six) combined for 13 assists.

SECOND SET

Delaware used an 8-0 to take a 14-9 lead in the first set, with Gilens picking up two kills in the streak.
A block by Norris and Campbell and another block by Rigby and Inman put Delaware ahead 20-17. UD closed out the set with three-straight points to go up 2-0.
Delaware hit a blistering .464 in the set, it's second most efficient set of the season. Gillens had four kills.

THIRD SET

Five-straight points, including three consecutive blocks from Murray, gave Delaware a 14-9 lead, and a 3-0 run put the Blue Hens ahead 18-13.
Saint Peter's responded with five-straight to tie the set at 18 before Delaware took a 23-20 lead. Saint Peter's again battled back to tie the set at 23, and then staved off match point five times to win the set 30-28.
Gillens had eight kills in the set, the most by a Delaware player in any set this year. Inman had 10 assists. Rigby and Nguyen each had seven digs, also the most for any Delaware player in a set this season.

FOURTH SET

Delaware only trailed in the fourth set after the first point. Saint Peter's tied the set 11 but that was the closest the fourth set ever was.
An 8-2 run put Delaware ahead 19-13. A kill by Lyssy and Norris put Delaware ahead 23-16 and a set error and an ace by Inman sealed the game for UD.
Gillens and Norris each had four kills in the set.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Gillens had a monster weekend, tallying 36 kills on a .397 hitting percentage with nine blocks in seven sets. Her 19 kills tied a season-high for a Delaware player this season, also last done by Gillens on Sept. 7 against Le Moyne. Her six blocks today were also a career-high.
Norris' 15 kills were a career-high.
Rigby's 13 digs were a career-high.
Inman's 11 digs were a career-high.
In her second career game, Lyssy recorded career-highs in assists and digs.
Lyssy became the first Delaware player with a double-double within her first two career games since 2019, when Lani Mason and Ezgi Basaranlar both did it in their collegiate debuts on August 30 against West Virginia. Lyssy also became the first Delaware player with at least 15 digs in a match within their first two career games since Mason had 16 in her college debut.
Nguyen's 22 digs were a season-high, and her fourth career-match with at least 20 digs after having three last year.
Redd had her third match this season with at least 10 digs.
Murray recorded her second match this season with at least seven blocks.
Campbell's four blocks tied her career-high, last done on August 30 against UMBC.
