Field Hockey Rolls Past William & Mary 6-1

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware field hockey picked up a win over the William & Mary Tribe by a score of 6-1, scoring their most goals under Tara Zollinger.
The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 4-5, while the Tribe fall to 1-6 on the season.

The Blue Hens remain home to host Ohio State on Sunday, September 28, at 1 p.m. for Youth Day.

HEN HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- Iris Bekker, Amanda Rattay, Livia van't Hek, Kate Fiest, Alexa Michielsen, and Sarah Rigual all netted goals for the Hens.
- Bekker and Michielsen now lead Delaware with five goals each.
- The Blue & Gold registered a season high of 16 shots on goal.
- Kristi Merashoff made two saves, while only allowing one goal in the win.
- Merashoff and the back line allowed only three William & Mary shots on goal.
- Delaware netted three goals in the first half of action.Â
- Bekker scored after a penalty corner, assisted by Rachael Whitehead.
- Rattay grabbed her first-career goal, rebounded off of a save by the Tribe's goalkeeper.
- van't Hek capitalized on a give-and-go opportunity from Fiest, sending the Hens out to a three-goal lead at the break.
- To open the fourth quarter, Fiest put one of her own shots into the net after inserting a corner and getting the feed from Linde van Leeuwen.
- Michielsen scored her third goal in as many games after stealing the ball in Delaware's attacking half and zipping past a defender.
- Just three minutes later, Rigual scored her first goal of the season after a penalty corner, with helpers from Bekker and Whitehead.
- The six different goal scorers for Delaware are the most since six different Blue Hens scored in the 2022 CAA Championship, in a 6-1 win over Drexel.
- Bekker's goal was the tenth-fastest goal in program history at 1:28, tying a record set by Kayla Devlin at Temple on September 9, 2016.
- This is the most goals that Delaware has scored since they netted eight in an 8-0 victory over Villanova on September 1, 2023.
