Women’s Basketball’s Winning-Streak Comes to an End Against Missouri State

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team had its three-game winning-streak snapped at the hands of Missouri State, 79-54, inside the Bob Carpenter Center on Friday. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 9-11, 3-5 CUSA, while the Lady Bears rise to 13-7, 5-2 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

UD had a season-high six blocks as a team, led by Ande'a Cherisier with two.
Safi Kolliegbo led the team with 20 points including 14 in the third quarter. It was her 12th-career game with 20+ points.
Cherisier neared a double-double, recording 16 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cherisier scored the first six points of the game for Delaware en route to an 8-6 lead at the first quarter media timeout with 4:39 left in the frame. A 14-0 run for Missouri State to end the frame gave the Lady Bears an 18-8 advantage at the end of the first.
Both teams went into the second quarter media stoppage on scoreless droughts as the defense picked up with the visitors leading 21-12 halfway through the frame. Missouri State finished the first half on a 9-0 run taking a 39-19 advantage into the break.
Delaware outpaced the Lady Bears 10-5 in the frame at the time of the initial third quarter media stoppage, including holding Missouri State scoreless for 2:30 heading into the timeout. Eight-consecutive points for the Hens brought the game to within 11 late in the third. The game was back to a single-digit game at the second of the two media stoppages in the quarter as the Hens trailed by nine. The Lady Bears led 53-42 going into the final quarter despite Delaware outscoring its opponent 23-14 in the frame.
Missouri State outscored UD 26-12 in the final frame to take the contest.

The Fightin' Blue Hens will host FIU on Sunday, February 1. The game will be at 4 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
