- Safi Kolliegbo led the way with 18 points. She added four steals in a 39-minute effort.
- Ande'a Cherisier scored 16 points, while pulling down 12 rebounds, helping her notch her team-leading sixth double-double of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams converted each of their first-three buckets with four of Delaware's points coming off the touch of Cherisier. Kennesaw State held a two-point advantage at the first quarter media stoppage with 4:26 left in the frame. UD held the Owls scoreless for the final 4:14 of the period, while Trinity Vance capped off a 7-0 run for the Blue & Gold to give it a 16-14 lead heading into the second.
- At the second quarter media timeout, Delaware led 23-22 with 4:56 left in the first half. KSU scored six-consecutive points to grab a 28-23 lead that forced Sarah Jenkins into timeout. The half ended with the two teams knotted at 30.
- The two squads started the back-half of the contest just as they started it off, trading buckets as Kennesaw led 45-42 at the media timeout in the third. With less than a minute to go in the stanza, Lay Fantroy knocked down a pair of free throws to even the game at 47 heading into the final frame.
- After a slow start to the quarter for both teams, Vance knocked down a three from the elbow to put the Blue Hens back in front, 51-50, with 5:39 to play. The Owls took the lead right back with the home team commanding a 55-51 advantage with 2:35 left in regulation. Fantroy came up clutch grabbing an offensive rebound and drawing a foul, allowing her to drain two free throws with one second left in the fourth to even the game at 58 to send it to OT. The UD defense was stout in the fourth quarter, holding Kennesaw State without a made field goal for the final 9:38 of the frame to send it to extras.
- The teams struggled to get the lid off the basket in the extra period as the Blue & Gold outpaced the Owls 4-2 through the first-four minutes. Following a missed go-ahead three by KSU, Ella Wanzer went to the line, making one-of-two attempts to put the Hens up 63-60 with 23 ticks left. The Owls had multiple attempts from long range to tie it but missed them both, leading to the Delaware holding on for the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Prior to tonight, there had never been a game involving a CUSA team that was tied at halftime, at the end of the third quarter, and at the end of regulation (since the switch to quarters in 2015-16).
- Thursday's contest was UD's fifth overtime game of the season, the most in a single season in program history surpassing the four overtime games played in 2009-10.
