Fantroy Records 20-Point Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Falls at Jax State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Lay Fantroy scored a season-best 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the University of Delaware women's basketball team fell to Jacksonville State, 61-58, inside Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 11-12, 5-6 CUSA, while the Gamecocks rise to 12-11, 6-5 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware outshot the opposition 42-percent to 37-percent in the contest.
- Fantroy recorded her sixth double-double of the season and it was her first 20-point game as a member of the Blue Hens.
- Ande'a Cherisier picked up 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field
- Ella Wanzer scored 10 points, helped by two three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware got out to a 9-2 start thanks to Safi Kolliegbo, Fantroy and Wanzer making a combined 4-of-5 field goals to begin the game. UD outpaced the Gamecocks 22-18 in the first frame.
- JSU began the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 28-24 lead midway through the frame. The home team closed the half on a 15-2 stretch leaving a 36-26 advantage for Jax State at the break.
- The Blue & Gold used a 6-0 run in 1:05 to get back to within striking distance early in the third quarter, trailing 40-37 with 5:40 to go in the frame. JSU pulled ahead 52-41 to end the third quarter including a made three to beat the buzzer.
- Delaware went on a 12-0 run as Jax State was scoreless for over six minutes to cut the deficit to 57-56 with 1:35 left in regulation. A three for the Gamecocks halted the scoreless drought and made it a four-point game with 1:20 left. Fantroy countered with a driving layup to bring it back to a one-shot game as the clock ticked under a minute. Jax State made a free throw to advance the lead to three and Delaware missed its opportunity to tie the game at the buzzer.
GAME NOTES
- Fantroy's double-double was the third time a CUSA player has put up at least 20 points and 16 rebounds in a contest this season. It was the second instance during CUSA play.
