COURSE CONDITIONS
- Weather held within the 50s with sun. There were 26 mph cross-head winds from the west gusting up to 41 mph. The water was choppy with white caps in the middle 1,000 meters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
V4+
- The race against Drexel was scratched.
- Due to the wind, SJU was unable to lock on to the stake boat, which had the Hawks start the race half a boat length up on Delaware.
- UD got off the line quickly and walked through SJU for an open water lead in the first 500 meters. Despite increasing winds and choppy water on the course in the middle 1,000 meters, the Hens widened the gap to continue leading. A significant lead going into the final 500 meters helped the boat step away from SJU during the sprint.
- Both crews battled back-and-forth in the first 500m, with SJU taking the lead in the latter portion of the first half. UD remained in contact with Saint Joe's through significant winds and choppy water.
- The Blue & Gold gained momentum in the third 500 meters, continuing to move up on Saint Joe's through the sprint. The final race margin was one bow deck, with the Hawks prevailing by 0.88 seconds.
