Baseball Earns First Conference USA Victory Over Dallas Baptist

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball program earned its first-ever Conference USA victory as the Fightin' Blue Hens defeated Dallas Baptist by a score of 5-4 on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium.
With the win, Delaware's record improves to 10-12 overall (1-3 CUSA) while the Patriots fall to 12-10 (2-2 CUSA).
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The offense was engineered by three solo-home runs off the bats of Evan Bouldin, LT Cockrill and Matthew Minckler.
- For Bouldin, it was his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Cockrill and Minckler both hit their second of the season.
- The Blue Hens needed just two pitchers for Friday's win.
- Ryan McLaughlin started on the mound and pitched a career-high five innings. He allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out two batters. He earned the win and is now 2-1.
- Ryan Pugh pitched a career-high four innings to close out the game. He also allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out five batters. He earned his first save of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boudin kicked the game off with a solo-home run to left center field. The ball traveled 427 feet and had an exit velocity of 106 MPH.
- After DBU tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third, Cockrill hit a home run to deep left field to retake the lead.
- The Blue Hens added onto their lead when Anthony DeCesare drove in Harry Carr off an error in the fourth, and Anthony Charles grounded into a double play to drive in Bouldin in the fifth.
- Minckler hit the go-head home run in the bottom of the sixth to left field to give the Blue Hens a 5-2 lead.
- DBU chipped away at the Delaware lead with an RBI double in the seventh and a home run in the eighth. But, Pugh shut the door on the Patriots comeback with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
GAME NOTES
- Fourth year head coach Greg Mamula earned his 99th win as the Blue Hens skipper in Friday's win.
