Women’s Golf Wins Nashville Invitational; Roberts Claims Runner-Up Honors

HERMITAGE, Tenn. – The University of Delaware women's golf team won its second tournament of the season, holding on for a five-stroke victory at The National Invitational, hosted by Lipscomb. Three Blue Hens finished in the top three as Kate Roberts claimed runner-up honors while Hyunji Kim and Marissa Malosh tied for third. The Fightin' Blue Hens turned in a three-round score of 18-over par 882 to finish atop the 16-team field at the par-72, 6,186-yard Hermitage Golf Course.

The Blue Hens will head back to the First State to take on Navy in a match play event on Saturday, March 28. Individuals from both teams will play a one-on-one format for 18 holes at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens totaled 39 birdies over the three rounds, including 14 in each of the Monday's first two rounds as they held the tournament lead through 36 holes.
- Roberts, playing as an individual for the tournament, had four birdies in her opening round as she turned in an even-par 72. She finished with nine total birdies as she never carded higher that a 1-over 73 in any round.
- Kim fired a 2-under par 70 during Monday's first round and followed it up with a 1-over par 73 as she was tied atop the leaderboard after 36 holes. She finished with seven total birdies.
- Malosh drained four of her nine total birdies during Tuesday's final round as she carded an even-par 72 to move up into a tie for third overall.
- Sawant had a birdie and holed out for an eagle on the 10th hole in the first round, before turning in an even-par 72 during the second round.
OF NOTE
- The team win is Delaware's second of the season after closing out the fall with a win at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational. Overall, it is the 15th team title in program history.
- Roberts turned in her best overall finish in the field and to par as she recorded her second top-10 finish of the season, and first-career runner-up.
- Malosh and Kim both finished among the top three in a tournament for the first time in their careers. It is the first top-10 finish of the season for Malosh, and fourth of her career. It is the second for Kim this season and third of her career.
