Women's Tennis Prevails Over Jax State in CUSA Championship Quarterfinals 4-2; To Take On LA Tech in Semifinal

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - University of Delaware women's tennis picked up its first win in program history in the Conference USA Championships with a 4-2 defeat over Jacksonville State on Thursday.
The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 20-4, while the Gamecocks wrap up their season at 12-7.
Lara Russiniello moved into tied for fifth place in program history for singles wins in a season with her 25th win of the season to clinch the match for Delaware.
ON THE RECORD
This win was built from the start in our warmup, head coach Pablo Montana said. Our doubles set the tone with authority, clinching the point at one, and proving again that our doubles is a force to be reckoned with. From there, you could see it in our eyes in singles that we were locked in, driven, and relentless. We wanted this one, and it showed on every court.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware took the doubles point after wins in third and first doubles. Katie Dollens and Russiniello took a 6-3 win, while Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska battled to a 7-6 (7-3) win on the first court.
- In singles, UD fell behind 2-1 before winning on three-straight courts to clinch the match.
- On court five, Navya Vadlamudi stayed in control through straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-1, for her eighth-consecutive win.
- Opposite her on court one, Hrynashka continued her hot streak started in doubles, winning first singles 6-4, 6-1.
- Russiniello clinched the match for her second win of the day, playing to a tough first set where she won 7-5. The Switzerland native cruised through the second set winning 6-0 to send Delaware to the semifinals.
- This is Pablo Montana's ninth time winning 20 matches in a season and third with Delaware.
