Men’s Basketball Lands Transfer DeShawn Harris-Smith

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware men's basketball program signed transfer DeShawn Harris-Smith to the 2026-27 roster, head coach Martin Ingelsby announced Monday. Harris-Smith will join the Fightin' Blue Hens after spending last season at Georgetown.
"We are thrilled to welcome DeShawn to our Delaware basketball family," Ingelsby said. "Being able to bring in a three level scorer who has done it at the highest levels will be a huge addition to our team. Welcome to Newark, DeShawn!"
The 6-5 guard has appeared in 75 games, with 38 starts and averages 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 38.8 percent from the floor for his career.
Last season Harris-Smith appeared in six games for Georgetown where he averaged 16.3 minutes, 5.4 points, and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 60.0 percent from the floor.
Prior to attending Georgetown, Harris-Smith spent two seasons at Maryland. In the 2024-25 season, he shot 5-for-5, posting a season-high 11 points in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Grand Canyon. In his freshman year he earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after becoming the sixth Terrapin freshman to score in double figures in their debut and the first to do so since Jalen Smith in 2018, as well as the first Maryland freshman to start in a season opener since Smith and Aaron Wiggins in 2018.
The Woodbridge, Va. native played for St. Paul VI High School, where he was selected as one of 35 players nationally to take part in the USA Basketball U19 Men's National Team Training Camp, and played in the Iverson All-American Game. Harris-Smith was named the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, Naismith High School All-American, WCAC Player of the Year, All-MET Player of the Year, two-time VISAA Player of the Year, and Max Preps Virginia Player of the Year. He graduated high school as a four-star recruit ranked No. 26 nationally and as the top prospect out of Virginia. Harris-Smith also played on the AAU circuit with Team Takeover where he was named first team all-tournament at Peach Jam after averaging 12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
