NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware women's basketball has hired Andre Jurko as an assistant coach, head coach Sarah Jenkins announced Monday.
"I am excited to welcome Coach Andre to our Blue Hen family," Jenkins said. "He brings a wealth of experience, having coached at multiple levels, along with a skillset and passion for the game that will make an impact in many ways. His infectious energy and enthusiasm will have a positive influence not only on our program, but also throughout our Blue Hen community."
Jurko joins the Fightin' Blue Hens staff with 10 years of Division I coaching experience. He most recently served as an assistant women's basketball coach at Fordham for the past three seasons.
"From our first conversation, I knew Coach Jenkins runs a program where players come first and winning is a byproduct of culture," Jurko said. "I'm honored to join her staff and can't wait to get to work developing young women who compete at the highest level."
At Fordham, in addition to running the offense, Jurko was the director of scouting and director of player development. He signed over 15 athletes out of the transfer portal and established an expansive international player pipeline. Over his three seasons with the Rams, he helped develop three professional players.
Before his time in the Bronx, Jurko spent one season at Northeastern, where he helped the Huskies to a share of the program's first-ever regular season conference championship. The team recorded its highest win total in a season in program history and received five postseason awards. While on staff with Northeastern, he coached three all-conference athletes and assisted two on the route to playing professionally.
Prior to his arrival in Boston, Jurko spent six years at UNC Asheville, four of which came as an assistant coach, where he helped develop multiple positions. His first two years were spent as the team's Director of Basketball Operations as it captured a Big South championship in 2017 and a runner-up finish in 2018. During his first two seasons as an assistant coach, the Bulldogs earned two WBIT postseason berths.
Jurko also has experience at the high school level, as he held an assistant coach position at Sagemont High School from 2014-16, where he helped guide the nationally recognized boy's program to the Class 3A State Finals.
The Weston, Fla., native was a women's basketball practice player for the perennially-ranked Florida State Seminoles as a mechanical engineering major before pivoting to a career in athletics. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida in 2016.
