Delaware Athletics & Campus Recreation Holds First Annual Day of Service

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Department of Athletics & Campus Recreation held its first annual day of service on Thursday, June 11 in conjunction with the first day of the 302 Tour. In total, over 100 staff and student-athletes participated in eight different community service projects across New Castle County.
“Giving back to the 302 community is such an important part of our mission,” Director of Athletics & Campus Recreation Jordan Skolnick said. “We are excited to start this annual tradition in addition to the various service projects we work with throughout the school year to further show our commitment to the State of Delaware!”




















Humane Animal Partners: staff spent the morning participating in various activities supporting both the Wilmington and Christiana/Stanton Humane Animal Partners locations. Services included packing food bags, cleaning out dog bowls, equipment/toys and kennels, organizing supplies, restocking medicines/supplements and of course enjoying some play time with our furry friends.
Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games: assembled and packed lunches/meals, set up games in various locations on campus, and set up tents/chairs.
Brandywine Creek State Park: assisted with heavy trail cleanup by cutting and trimming trees, raking leaves/sticks and debris, collecting any trash, and removing unwanted or invasive vegetation.
Western YMCA: cleaned up the camp area, removing leaves, trash, sticks, and other debris, and organized/cleaned out shed spaces.
Food Bank of Delaware Farm Ring: picked 19 pounds of raspberries for distribution to those in need
Friendship House: organized donated items from the community
Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club: folded and organized camp t-shirts, organized/cleaned out storage areas, painted different spaces around campus, restrung and hung banners, and built a picnic table.
Community Education Building: unpacked food delivery/made meal packs, cleaned up the library, organized clothes, and picked up trash around the building.
