Women's Soccer Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Over George Washington in Season Opener

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware women's soccer earned a 3-2 season-opening win over George Washington on August 15 to improve to 1-0 on the season. Three different players scored goals, including the game-winner by Olivia Bley with less than five minutes remaining.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Taisiya Reid, Maggie Groh, and Bley all scored goals.
Reese Reimann, Adiat Olaogun-Dickson, and Groh recorded assists.
Sophia Hall had seven saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Reid scored the season's first goal in the 39th minute, giving Delaware a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
George Washington tied it in the 59th minute, but Delaware quickly took the lead back in the 66th minute on Groh's goal.
The Revolutionaries evened the score at two in the 71st minute.
Delaware took the lead in the 85th minute on a goal by Bley, clinching the 3-2 win.

GAME NOTES

Delaware improves to 3-1 in season openers under head coach Kelly Lawrence and is 7-1 in season openers since 2019.
Reid's goal was the sixth of her career.
Groh recorded her 10th goal of her career and seventh career assist. She also scored a goal and recorded an assist in last year's season opener against Mount St. Mary's. This is the third game of her career with a goal and an assist.
Bley's goal was the fourth of her career and her first game-winner.
Reid, Groh, and Bley all also scored in last year's season-opener against Mount St. Mary's.
Olaogun-Dickson's assist was the third of her career. She had two assists last season (August 28 at Towson and Sept. 12 vs. William & Mary).
Reimann's assist came in her collegiate debut. She is the first Delaware freshman with an assist in her collegiate debut since Izzy Lane in 2022, also coming in the season-opener on August 18 against Delaware State.
