WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - University of Delaware field hockey defeated No. 18 Monmouth by a score of 2-1 on Sunday.

This was Delaware's first ranked under Tara Zollinger and first overall since prevailing over then No. 18 Old Dominion on August 27, 2023.

The Blue Hens remain on the road on Sunday, September 6, to face off against the Penn State Nittany Lions.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The Fightin' Blue Hens held Monmouth to six shots and without a shot in the first half.
- Penelope Kousouris and Alexa Michielsen recorded goals for Delaware, the first of the season for both.
- Gabby Prentice played all 60 minutes in the cage, saving one shot.
- Kousouris scored her first-career with nine minutes to go in the second quarter, giving UD its first lead of the season.
- Michielsen recorded her tally on a putback with 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter, extending the lead to two for Delaware.
- Monmouth converted a penalty corner with eight minutes to go in the third stanza, trimming the lead to one.
- Avary Miller had a defensive save with five minutes remaining to keep the Hawks from evening the score.
- Miller and Lexi Causa recorded their first-career starts, while Carmella Gannon appeared in her first-collegiate contest.
- This is Zollinger's first ranked win since November 10, 2024, when her Shippensburg Raiders took down No. 10 Limestone in the Division II NCAA Quarterfinal.
- The one penalty corner allowed by UD ties for the least under Tara Zollinger, tying the one given up in wins over Lock Haven and Towson in 2025.
- Lily Cosner and Linde van Leeuwen have now played in all 120 minutes of the season thus far.
