Volleyball Defeats Rider in Straight-Sets

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -Â University of Delaware volleyball defeated Rider in straight sets (28-26, 25-16, 25-10) for its third win in a row.Â
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Asia Murray had a match-high 10 kills and six blocks while hitting .500.
- Morgan Campbell hit .588 with 10 kills.
- Anna Logan Gillens tallied nine kills with three blocks.
- Kennedi Inman had 29 assists, eight digs, and three blocks.
- Thalia Yancey had a team-high 11 digs to go with four aces.
- Emily Zgonc had seven digs.Â
- Jayda Gray and Taylor Holly had five digs.Â
HOW ITÂ HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Set one was the closest of the match, featuring 16 ties and six lead changes. Rider took its largest lead at 10-6, but a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills from Gillens and Murray eventually evened the score at 12.Â
- Rider regained the lead, 19-17, but a kill from Campbell and an ace by Yancey put UD up 20-19. The score was tied at 24-24 and 25-25 before Rider took a one-point lead, then Delaware scored the final three points of the set, with Campbell recording a block and kill during the closing moments, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Murray had six kills in the set and hit .556. Inman had 10 assists.Â
SECONDÂ SET
- Delaware never trailed in the second set. Murray immediately made an impact with four blocks to give Delaware an 8-2 lead.Â
- Four straight points gave UD a 15-7 lead, then Inman recorded two kills to make it 18-9. Murray added a kill and a block to make the score 21-11 before UD closed out the set, 25-16 to go up 2-0.Â
- Delaware held Rider to a -.037 hitting percentage and hit .458. Gillens had four kills and Murray had five blocks.Â
THIRDÂ SET
- Rider scored back-to-back points to take a 5-3 lead, but Delaware scored 22 of the next 27 points to win the set and match. Â
- The stretch was highlighted by Delaware's best scoring run of the season - an 8-0 spurt to take a 22-9 lead. Gillens and Murray had a kill, Gillens, Murray and Inman had a block, and Membreno had an ace during the run. Kills by Gillens and Murray ended the match.Â
- Delaware held Rider to a -.065 hitting percentage, its best mark in any set this season, while hitting .333. Murray and Gillens had four kills in the set.Â

MATCH NOTES
- Delaware's 8-0 run in the third set was its best scoring run of the season. It previously went on a 7-0 run during set one against Marist on August 29.Â
- Campbell's 10 kills were a career-high.Â
- Murray has had at least 10 kills in four straight matches. Over her last three matches, she is hitting .414 with 31 kills and 14 blocks in 11 sets.Â
- Murray's six blocks were tied for the most by a Conference USA player in a three-set match this season. Michaela Dlouhá of Middle Tennessee had six against Boise State and Samford and Rachelle Reed of Sam Houston had six against Kent State.Â
- Delaware has won seven-straight matches over Rider and is 21-2 in sets over that stretch since 1992.Â
