KENT, Ohio - University of Delaware field hockey defeated future MAC opponent Kent State University by a score of 2-1 on Sunday.Â

Katie Clarke and Linde van Leeuwen scored goals for the Fightin' Blue Hens while the defense allowed only one shot on goal.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Clarke scored her second goal in as many games on a backhand shot in the 27th minute.
- van Leeuwen gave Delaware the lead for good four minutes into the third quarter, scoring on a penalty corner with assists from Avary Miller and Kate Fiest.
- Delaware had two corner opportunities and recorded four shots in the first frame while both teams remained scoreless. The Hens did not allow the Golden Flashes to take a shot in the quarter.
- Kent State got on the board first with four minutes remaining in the stanza on its first penalty corner of the contest. Clarke's tally came two minutes later with an unassisted score after splitting two defenders at the 25-yard line to tie things up going into halftime.
- UD earned three penalty corners to Kent's one in the third quarter. On the second one of the frame, van Leeuwen scored her first of the season on assists from Fiest and Miller to take the lead. The Blue & Gold outshot KSU 4-0 in the quarter.
- Both teams went without a score in the final frame. The Blue Hens took two shots to Kent State's one to round out the final 15 minutes.
- Clarke is the second on the team this season to score in consecutive games (Alexa Michielsen (at Monmouth, at Penn State).
- Clarke is now tied for the team lead in points with five, which as of the conclusion of the contest ties for the MPSF lead, doubling her total from last year.
- The last time Delaware allowed only one shot on goal was against Towson on October 3, 2025. Prentice allowed just a single shot on goal against the Golden Flashes last year when she shut them out at home.
- Delaware has finished the contest with a 2-1/1-2 outcome four times this season, already matching the total of its most frequent score, which also was 2-1/1-2 in 2025.
- This win extends Delaware's win streak to three games against current MAC opponents as it enters the conference in 2027.
