O'Neill Promoted to Associate Head Coach of Track & Field

NEWARK, Del. - A critical piece of the Delaware track & field staff over the past two years, Sebastien O'Neill has been promoted to associate head coach, as announced by head coach Josh Hayman on Friday.Â
"Sebastien has been an integral part of the growth of our program over the past two years, and this promotion is a reflection of the impact he continues to make on our student-athletes and our staff," Hayman said. "His ability to develop athletes, build meaningful relationships and bring a high level of energy and purpose to our program every day has helped elevate our sprints, jumps, hurdles, and multi's groups to new heights. Beyond the results, Sebastien is someone I trust tremendously and whose leadership is invaluable as we continue building the future of Delaware Track & Field. I'm incredibly excited to recognize everything he has contributed to our program with this well-earned title change."Â
During his two seasons with the Fightin Blue Hens, O'Neill has elevated the sprints and jumps programs to new heights. Between the indoor and outdoor seasons, the program has 27 new top-10 times between the sprints and jumps groups.Â
During the 2025 indoor season, Sara Manson set the program record in the pentathlon with 3,446 points. Last winter, Lauren Leath set the program record in the 600-meters with a time of 1:32.46. Leath became the program's first Conference USA individual champion when she won the 400-hurdles last spring.Â
O'Neill came to Newark after serving as the associate head coach at Milligan University from 2021-24, an assistant coach at Louisburg College from 2018-21, and a volunteer assistant at Louisiana Monroe from 2017-18. He also ran a season of track at University of Louisiana-Monroe as a graduate transfer, where he ran the 800 meters and 1,500 meters and finished in 18th at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track Championships.
" I am excited to continue on our journey towards winning a C-USA championship," O'Neil said. I appreciate the support both from coach Hayman and the administration here at Delaware. I am excited to receive the promotion and see what we can do as a group this year and in the future".Â
A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, O'Neill earned his bachelor's in psychology with a minor in speech in 2015 from Nicholls State, followed by a master's degree in psychology with a concentration in forensic psychology in 2017 from ULM.Â
