In the program’s historic 2025 campaign, Makar played a key role in Delaware’s record-breaking first season in The Summit League. The Blue Hens finished 12-2-3 overall, advanced to The Summit League Semifinals, and recorded the fewest losses (2) in program history among seasons with at least 15 matches. Delaware opened the year with the best start in program history (7-0), went unbeaten in its first 10 matches (9-0-1), and completed the season undefeated at home (8-0). In his fourth year at UD, Makar contributed to the development of one of the most dynamic teams in the nation, as Delaware ranked first in the NCAA in scoring offense and points per game, while breaking 16 program records. The Blue Hens produced seven All-Summit League selections, four All-ECAC honorees, and the Summit League Midfielder of the Year in Rich Monath.
In his third season, Makar welcomed six new freshmen onto the squad. Half the freshmen took the pitch this season and picked up statistics. The recruit that Makar and head coach Tommy McMenemy traveled to Denmark to watch made incredible strides during his rookie season. Marius Stenner collected CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his collegiate debut followed by two CAA Rookie of the Week awards throughout the season. Stenner was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list at no. 14, the highest in the CAA. He finished off the regular season as the only freshman tied for first nationally for game winning goals at five. He lead the team in points at 22 and goals at nine, while also sitting in the top 100 nationally for those statistics. Stenner also was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team and All-CAA First Team. Alex Taylor and Jaydon Fuller were two freshmen who also played strong roles on the pitch. Within the team Makar continued aiding the team in strengthening their stamina and discipline within each match.
Makar served alongside McMenemy on the University of Michigan men’s soccer staff since 2014 as the program’s director of operations and video coordinator. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program including opponent scouting, post game and training film analysis, individual player analysis, equipment, team travel, camp organization and promotion, training plans, match preparation and budget management.
During his time in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2017 and 2018 before earning a spot in the Sweet Sixteen in 2019. Michigan won the 2017 Big Ten regular season title, advanced to the conference tournament semifinals four times, and competed in the Big Ten Tournament championship match in 2018 and 2019.
Prior to his stint at Michigan, Makar spent four years on the Lafayette coaching staff, the first three as assistant coach/goalkeeping coach and the final year as first assistant and recruiting coordinator. The Leopards posted 27 shutouts during his four seasons in Easton and won the 2012 Patriot League championship.
Makar began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Susquehanna University from 2007-10, helping lead the River Hawks to the 2008 Landmark Conference title.
Makar was a four-year letterwinner at Susquehanna from 2003-06, earning second team All-Mid-Atlantic Conference honors in 2004 and 2005 before being named to the first team in 2006. He served as team captain as a senior and was a three-time All-Mid-Atlantic Conference Academic Team honoree. Makar graduated from Susquehanna in May, 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and a minor in economics.
Makar and his wife Joci, are parents to their daughter Julien and son Jonah.
