A standout athlete, coach, administrator, and benefactor, Bob Siemen devoted a lifetime to Blue Hens Athletics. He lettered in four sports – soccer, tennis, basketball, and track – captained the 1942 soccer team that won the Mason-Dixon Conference title, and ran to a second place finish at the Penn Relays in 1943.
After earning his degree from Delaware in 1943, he served in World War II and then 28 years as an Army reservist. After active duty, he returned to UD as assistant athletic director, handling the business and ticketing side of athletics.
He also served as head coach for the varsity baseball (1953-55) and tennis teams (1951-52) and freshman basketball and track teams.
He left UD for a long and successful career at the DuPont Corp., but remained active as president of the UD Alumni Association and as a track & field official, and served in the football press box as a spotter for PA announcer and Hall of Famer Elbert Chance into his 80s.
Bob earned two master’s degrees from Delaware and has a basketball scholarship named in his honor.
