Cody Gilmore came to Delaware ahead of the 2022-23 season and will serve in the role of assistant coach after spending four seasons (2018-22) as the head women’s basketball coach at Salem University head women's basketball coach. Gilmore just concluded his second season with the Blue Hens this past 2023-24 campaign.
In year two, Gilmore assisted the Blue Hen 2023-24 squad to a second round appearance at the CAA tournament along with freshman center Ande'a Cherisier walking away with a CAA All-Rookie nod. For the second-straight year, the Blue Hens were on an offensive tear as the team ranked third in the league averaging 67.4 points, totaled 80-plus points in four difference contests and had nine 70-plus point performances during the campaign. The Blue Hens also led the conference in attendance, averaging 1,297.0 fans per game.
The 2022-23 season saw the Blue Hens finish with 16-14 overall record, 9-9 in CAA play and second round appearance in the conference tournament. Gilmore assisted in the guidance of a spectacular season from third-team all-conference selection in Klarke Sconiers and having SAAC President Tara Cousin take home the league's most prestigious honor, the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award. The Blue Hens first year squad finished the tough non-conference schedule posting a 7-4 record, highlighted by capturing a B1G win over Illinois (Nov. 26), which marked the third time in three seasons that Delaware walked away with a win over a Power 5 school. The Blue Hens were an offensive threat as averaged 66.0 points, logged 80-plus points in three different contests and had seven 70-plus point performances this season.
Before that, Gilmore held the role of head assistant coach for five years (2013-18) at Glenville State College, including three years with Charles Marshall and two years with the current head coach, Kimberly Stephens.
The 2019-20 campaign was a memorable one for Gilmore as his team became one of the most prolific scoring teams in Salem women's basketball history. The Tigers matched a 25-year school record with five games of at least 100 points while also setting a school record with 40 points in the third period in a 103-64 victory over Ohio Valley. Salem is one of only 14 Division II women's basketball teams to score at least 40 points in a period since women's basketball converted from two 20-minute halves to four 10-minute quarters in 2015-16.
During Gilmore’s tutelage at Glenville State, the Pioneers went 116-37 overall. Gilmore was instrumental in the Pioneers’ recruiting and player development process, recruiting and coaching All-American and Mountain East Conference Player of the Year Paris McLeod, and All-Conference Second Team Courtney Davis.
Gilmore was an All-State athlete at Robert C. Byrd High School, lettering three years in football and basketball. Gilmore also played collegiate basketball at Glenville State and serve as a student assistant (2009-11) under former head coach Bunky Harkleroad.
Gilmore transferred to Fairmont State University in 2011 where he graduated with an RBA Degree in 2013.
