The most honored softball player in Blue Hen history, Kujala captained the first two softball teams at Delaware and was also a four-year standout in field hockey. She earned team Most Valuable Player honors and served as a co-captain for both sports.
She was named the national Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) National Softball Player of the Year (Broderick Award) in 1977, the highest honor ever received by a Blue Hen female athlete up until that time.
She set several school records, including batting average in a season (.560) and career (.530) while playing for head coach Kay Ice. The Blue Hens posted records of 14-1 in 1976 and 10-6 in 1977 during the first two varsity seasons of the sport at UD. Kujala also served as head coach of the UD softball team in 1980.
She also was a four-year member of the University of Delaware field hockey team and was tri-captain for the 1976 team that placed fourth at the AIAW national championships. The team's four-year mark was a combined 38-16-8 under Hall of Fame head coach Mary Ann Hitchens.
Kujala was selected as the 1977 UD Outstanding Senior Female Athlete - the first time that honor was awarded - and is also a member of the statewide Delaware Sports Hall of Fame.
In 1977, the world-champion Connecticut Falcons of the Women's Pro Softball Association made her their No. 1 draft choice, making her the first female University of Delaware. graduate to compete on a professional team. Her three-year career with the Falcons included a 1979 tour of China to promote women's softball, conduct clinics, and play the Chinese All-Star team.
In 1989, she was one of five honorees at the state's first Women in Sports Day.
