DARRELL L. BOOKER
Football (1984-87)
Baseball (1984-85)
One of the finest linebackers in the history of Blue Hen football, Darrell was one of the most feared defensive players in the country during his career as a four-year starter under UD Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond.
He earned first team All-American honors by the Associated Press and American Football Coaches Association as a middle linebacker in 1986 when he recorded 144 tackles and led the team to the Yankee Conference title and a berth in the NCAA I-AA quarterfinals with a 9-4 record. He also was named first team All-East and first team All-Yankee Conference.
A native of Willingboro, N.J., he earned second team Associated Press All-American honors as a junior in 1985 when he recorded a school-record 153 tackles and was a two-time Eastern College Athletic Conference All-East selection. He played for teams that put together a four-year mark of 29-17 under Raymond.
He still holds school records for tackles in a game (23 vs. West Chester in 1987 and vs. Temple in 1985), season (153), and career (506).
A two-year part-time starting outfielder for the University of Delaware baseball team, he batted .304 during the 1984 season under UD Hall of Fame head coach Bob Hannah. He led the team to two-year mark of 59-27-2 and two East Coast Conference Tournament appearances.
