Baseball (1967-70)
Baseball Assistant Coach (1975-76)
A three-year starter at second base for the Delaware baseball squad, Dave was one of the stars of the 1970 Blue Hen squad that went 22-6, captured the Middle Atlantic Conference title, won the NCAA District II championship, and became the only UD squad to compete at the College World Series.
Playing for Hall of Fame coach Bob Hannah, Dave led the Blue Hens to a three-year mark of 52-23, including a second place MAC finish in 1969. He earned first team All-American honors as a senior in 1970, was a two-time All-District and All-MAC selection, was the 1970 MAC Player of the Year, was a 10th round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, and played three seasons in the minor leagues.
In three seasons with the Blue Hens, he batted .377 with 120 hits and 66 runs batted in and established a school record with 60 stolen bases. He led the team with a .444 average as a junior in 1969 and was tied for the team lead in RBI with 31 while batting .363 as a senior in 1970. He ranked second in the NCAA in stolen bases in 1968 and was second in batting during the 1969 campaign.
He graduated holding 12 school records. A native of Wilmington, Del., Dave later served as an assistant coach at Delaware and as a collegiate golf head coach at Stanford, Army, and Oklahoma, leading his teams to several national rankings and serving as the NCAA Golf Chairman in 1985.
He earned three degrees from Delaware, including a bachelor’s degree in 1971 and a master’s degree in 1976. Dave's wife, Martha, is a 1975 UD graduate, and son, Hank, played baseball at UD in 2010-11 and played professionally in the Los Angles Dodgers organization.
