SARAH D. GAUSE
Women’s Basketball (1983-86)
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field (1984-85)
It was quite a year for Sarah as she celebrated induction into her third Hall of Fame. Earlier in 2015, the Wilmington, Del. native was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame and the Delaware Basketball Hall of Fame.
She started her collegiate career at Georgetown and played one season with the Hoyas before transferring to Delaware where she enjoyed a standout career for UD Hall of Fame head coach Joyce Perry. Sarah was the East Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1984-85 and led the Blue Hens to a 56-28 record in her three years, including a 22-4 mark and the ECC regular season title in 1983-84 and a record of 19-9 in 1984-85.
Upon graduation, she was among the UD career leaders with 880 points (No. 6 all-time), 530 rebounds (No. 5), and 115 blocked shots (No. 2) and averaged 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for her career. Sarah also competed in track & field and was among the ECC’s top throwers all three years, finishing third in the ECC shot put in both 1983 and 1985, and fourth in 1984.
She earned her nursing degree in 1986 and began work as a nurse at the Medical Center of Delaware later that year. Both her parents and six other members of her extended family are Delaware graduates, including her uncle, Bill Reybold, who was a UD Athletics Hall of Fame inductee in 2007.
