THOMAS M. “TOM” DIMUZIO
Football (1966-69)
One of the all-time great quarterbacks in Delaware football history, Tom was part of an impressive streak of UD signal callers that included All-Americans and several NFL starters for UD Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond.
A native of Philadelphia, Tom earned second team All-American honors and All-East laurels in 1969 when he threw for a school record 2,179 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading the Blue Hens to the Middle Atlantic Conference title.
As a three-year starter in 1967-69, he led the team to a combined record of 19-12, threw for a school-record 3,756 yards and 36 touchdowns and led the team to two MAC titles and two Lambert Cup trophies as the top team in the East. He also set school records for most yards passing in a game (369 yards vs. Lehigh in 1969) and longest pass play (87 yards vs. Villanova in 1969).
The 1970 UD Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year, he later played in the Atlantic Coast Football League with the Pottstown (Pa.) Firebirds and with the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League and earned a professional tryout with the NFL Washington Redskins.
He earned his degree in history from Delaware in 1971. His wife, Carolyn, is a Delaware graduate and son, T.J., played quarterback at Delaware and served as an assistant football coach with the Blue Hens.
