University of Delaware Netters Draw Drexel, Hofstra as Pairings Set For Virginia 529 CAA Tennis Championship

RICHMOND, Va. – Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Colonial Athletic Association has announced the pairings for the Virginia 529 men's and women's tennis tournament, slated to begin Thursday, April 19 in Norfolk, Va., and run through April 22.
All action will take place at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. Admission is free.
The men's championship gets underway on Thursday morning as eighth-seeded Delaware meets No. 9 Drexel at 9 a.m. The Blue Hens finished out the regular season with a 2-4 conference record. The winner will face top-seeded VCU in the quarterfinals on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Delaware defeated Drexel 5-2 back on Apr. 7 at the Delaware Field House Courts.
On the women's side, Delaware was selected as the No. 7 seed, finishing the CAA portion of the schedule with a 4-2 mark. The Hens will take on No. 10 Hofstra in the first round on Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. The winner will advance to face UNCW, which earned a No. 3 seed in the women's tournament, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
The Blue Hens knocked off Hofstra 7-0 back on March 18 at the Delaware Field House Courts.
In the men's tournament, VCU earned the top spot as the Rams look to make their fifth straight CAA Championship appearance after falling to UNCW in the CAA Finals last season. Earning the No. 2 seed for the second straight season is Georgia State, followed by a No. 3 seed for defending CAA champion UNCW. The fourth seed was granted to Old Dominion, while James Madison was seeded fifth. William & Mary took the No. 6 spot, followed by a No. 7 seed for George Mason. Delaware earned the No. 8 spot, as Drexel and Hofstra rounded out the tournament as the nine and 10 spots, respectively.
The women's tournament will feature No. 1 VCU, No. 2 UNCW, No. 3 Georgia State, and fourth-seeded and defending champion William & Mary. Old Dominion was selected fifth, followed by James Madison in sixth. The Hens earned the No. 7 spot, while No. 8 Drexel will take on No. 9 Towson. No. 10 Hofstra and No. 11 George Mason round out the field.
