McKee?s Late Goal Leads Delaware Field Hockey to Second Straight Win with 4-3 Victory over Temple

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware field hockey squad won its second straight game in thrilling fashion Friday afternoon as sophomore Kelsey McKee scored her second goal of the game with just 6:23 left to play to lift the Blue Hens to a 4-3 win over host Temple at Geasey Field.
McKee (at right), a pre-season All-Colonial Athletic Association defender, scored the game-winner off a corner as she blasted a shot from the top of the circle after taking feeds from Michaela Patzner and Heather Hartman.
The win gave Delaware (3-5) its second straight victory and third in the last four games heading into a showdown Sunday at No. 2 ranked Princeton. The Blue Hens' four goals was a season-high and most since a 4-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth last Oct. 30.
McKee, who led Delaware in goal-scoring as a freshman in 2011 with nine, recorded her first career multiple goal effort. The Hens also got goals from Hannah Pepper and Kasey Prettyman in the victory. The Hens, who avenged a 2-1 loss to Temple a year ago, showed great efficiency in the win Wednesday as they scored four times on just nine shots.
Temple (2-5) got two goals from Alyssa Delp while Amber Youtz scored once and dished out an assist. The Owls held advantages of 12-9 on shots and 4-2 on penalty corners.
The Owls opened the scoring on a goal by Delp just over five minutes into the game before the Hens tied the contest nine minutes later at 1-1 on Hannah Pepper's first goal of the season. Pepper took a pass from freshman Jackie Coveleski, gained control five yards in front of the cage, and scored to the upper right hand corner past Temple's goalkeeper Lizzie Millen (three saves).
Delaware then took its first lead of the game at 2-1 with 8:30 left in the first half as McKee tallied for the first time, rocketing a shot from the top of the circle off another penalty corner attempt. Carley Hecht and Hartman assisted on the play.
Temple then came back to send the game into intermission tied at 2-2 as Delp scored her second goal of the game off a feed from Youtz with just 1:15 left in the first half.
Delaware's Prettyman gave Delaware the lead again just two minutes into the second half as she tallied her third goal of the season off a feed from Toni Popinko. Prettyman's shot appeared to be saved by Millen, but the ball rolled up over the goalkeeper and into the cage for a 3-2 Delaware lead.
After a 22-minute scoring drought, Temple tied the game for the third time as Youtz scored an unassisted goal after dribbling the ball into the circle and scoring on her own deflection.
