Loughran, Travers Each Score Twice as Top-Ranked North Carolina Field Hockey Shuts Out Delaware, 6-0

NEWARK, Del. -- North Carolina junior forward Sinead Loughran and sophomore back Samantha Travers each scored a pair of goals as the top-ranked Tar Heels field hockey team posted a 6-0 victory over the University of Delaware Friday afternoon at sunny Rullo Stadium.
The Tar Heels, who improved to 4-1 on the season, also got a pair of assists from senior forward Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany as they defeated Delaware for the fourth straight meeting.
Loughran put North Carolina on the board just 20 seconds into the contest, when she stuffed home a rebound from five yards out to give the Tar Heels the early lead. Emma Bozek made it a two-goal game at the 5:32 mark by taking a feed from Radvany and blasting home a shot from 10 yards away.
Emily Wold then also scored from 10 yards out 11:42 into the contest, while 10 minutes later Travers scored an unassisted goal as North Carolina took a 4-0 cushion into halftime.
Travers scored her second goal of the contest just 3:13 into the second period, while only 25 seconds later Loughran found the back of the cage off a pass from Radvany to close the scoring.
Blue Hen junior goalkeeper Sarah Scher made six saves while allowing six goals in the first 49:20 of action, while freshman MéM?gane Simons (at right) stopped seven shots while not allowing a goal during the final 20:28 of play. Delaware junior forward Toni Popinko recorded the only Blue Hen shot, which was saved by Tar Heels goalkeeper Sassi Ammer.
North Carolina held a 29-1 shot advantage and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners over Delaware, which fell to 0-8 all-time against top-ranked opponents.
The Blue Hens, now 1-5 on the season with four of their losses coming to ranked foes, close out their three-game homestand on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game against Monmouth at Rullo Stadium.
