RICHMOND, Va. – Following an outstanding weekend for the #19 University of Delaware field hockey team, freshman Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands) was named both the Colonial Athletic Association Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Peet collected the first hat trick of her career Friday evening as she led the Blue Hens to a 6-0 victory over Hofstra. She also added an assist to finish the day with seven points, the most by a Delaware player since the 2009 season. Peet is also the first UD freshman to post a hat trick since Oct. 6, 1998.
On Sunday, Peet sealed UD's 3-0 victory at Northeastern with a penalty stroke goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
With both victories, the Blue Hens (12-4; 5-0 CAA) remained the lone unbeaten team in the league and clinched a portion of the CAA regular season title.
Rolf van de KerkhofPeet has made an immediate impact for Delaware in her rookie campaign as she is currently second on the team with four goals and 24 points. She is also fourth in the CAA with 1.50 points per game and tied for fourth in goals.
The recognition is the seventh of the season for the Blue Hens. Peet was previously named the CAA Rookie of the Week for Sept. 10.
Delaware looks to claim the CAA regular season title outright this Friday as the Blue Hens travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel (12-5; 3-1 CAA) at 7 p.m.
