Delaware Baseball Drops CAA Series with William & Mary After 4-2 Loss in Finale at Bob Hannah Stadium

Delaware drops to .500 in the CAA with a 3-3 mark and owns a 10-8 overall record. William & Mary improves to 12-8 overall and improves to 2-1 in the conference.
After scoring 20 runs on Friday, the Blue Hens have been limited to two runs and 11 hits over the last 18 innings.
“I don't think I've seen this in my 25-plus years of coaching, where you put a 20 spot in the first game of the series and then lose the series,” said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. “Tip my hat to them, they truly out competed us over the last two games.”
Jimmy Yezzo's third home run of the season began the bottom of the fourth inning and gave the Blue Hens their first run of the game. In the ninth inning, a RBI single up the middle by Ty Warrington drove in Nick Ferdinand for UD's final run of the game.
Ferdinand was the only Delaware batter with multiple hits as the senior right fielder collected two of six hits the Blue Hens tallied in the game.
The Tribe scored a pair of runs in the fourth and seventh innings that provided the difference for the win. The top four hitters for William & Mary accumulated five of the team's seven hits. Ryan Lindemuth was the only W&M hitter with two hits and scored one run. Jackson Shaver tallied the Tribe's only extra-base hit, with a lead-off double in the top of the fourth inning.
William & Mary starter Jason Inghram (2-2) earned the win as the left-hander held the Blue Hens to one earned run on four hits, one walk and nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Reliever Mitchell Aker (S, 4) secured the save despite being charged with one earned run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Making his first start of the season, Matt Soren (0-1) suffered the loss for the Blue Hens as the right-hander was charged with three earned runs in five hits, two walks and three strikeouts in a season-high six innings pitched.
The Blue Hens return to action on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium when the University of Delaware hosts the Wilmington University Wildcats.
“I know we can make the adjustments and do this,” said Sherman. “It's just one of those times that happens every season where you hit a bump in the road and we didn't play well the last two days.”
