3/29/2013 8:25:00 PM | Women's Tennis
“This was a strong, experienced UNCW team,” commented Delaware head coach Laura Travis. “They don't make mistakes and they run everything down. This was an excellent opportunity for us and it will help us down the road.”
UD picked up their lone win of the day in No. 3 singles action as Carmen Lai (at right) defeated Olga Blank, 7-5, 5-3 before Blank retired.
In the first match of singles play, Dorothy Safron nearly got Delaware on board before Christina Riley held on for a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 victory in the second spot. Safron's season-high four-game winning streak was snapped with the loss.
The loss was just the third of the season for the Blue Hens while UNCW improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.
UD has a quick turnaround as it continues CAA action against Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
