Delaware Baseball?s Offense Stumbles in 7-3 Loss at Hofstra in CAA Series Finale

Delaware (26-12, 11-7 CAA) lost its second-straight CAA weekend series while Hofstra improved to 20-21 overall and 8-10 in the conference.
“Hofstra just played better overall, we were out pitched and out hit,” said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. “We have to regroup and get ready to play again on Tuesday against Rutgers.”
The Blue Hens had a 10-hit game with DJ Long, Tyler Powell, EJ Stoltzfus, and Jimmy Yezzo each pocketing two hits apiece in the loss. Delaware scored its first run in the fifth inning and its final two in the seventh inning. Brock Niggebrugge tallied an RBI single in the seventh while Andrew Burgess coaxed a bases-loaded walked that forced in the Hens' final run.
Matt Soren (3-2) suffered the loss for the Blue Hens after the right-hander was charged with seven runs (four earned) on six hits, two walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched.
The Hofstra offense collected seven hits in the victory and scored four runs in the first inning and added three more in the third frame. Jackson was the only Pride batter with a two-hit game and he drove in HU's first run of the game with a RBI single in the first inning. Joe Perez also had a RBI single in the third inning.
The Pride's Nick Kozlowski (3-0) earned the victory after the right-hander tossed 6.2 innings and surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The Blue Hens return to action this Tuesday, April 23, as Delaware hosts Rutgers University at 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Delaware will turn to right-hander Dan Gatto (3-1, 3.70 earned-run average) while Rutgers has yet to name a starter.
