NEWARK, Del. – For the second straight season, the
University of Delaware men's and women's tennis programs paired with Greenville Country Club for a 'friendraiser' in which the Blue Hens student-athletes interacted and played with local tennis members this past Sunday afternoon.
Between both the men's and women's teams, more than 20 Delaware student-athletes and coaches joined GCC members for a tennis showdown event.
Throughout the afternoon, UD players paired with community members and competed against one another.
Delaware alum Mark Centrella ('95), the current Director of Tennis at GCC, organized the event with the goals of giving
back to the Blue Hens programs. After graduating from UD, Centrella (at left) has gone on to earn the highest honor in the teaching professional world of tennis as a USPTA Master Professional.
"Our UD student-athletes carried themselves like the true champions they are both on and off the courts. That coupled with the community members being such great sports with the whole day made for a win-win situation. All of the players thoroughly
enjoyed the social, yet competitive, atmosphere which culminated in breaking bread and socializing with new people. We look forward to participating again next year," said Travis.
Amongst those in attendance included Jeff Garland, UD's Vice President and University Secretary (at right, alongside Centrella).
Earlier in the afternoon, the Blue Hens had their team photos taken on the GCC grounds.
