RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware football squad earned its first Colonial Athletic Association player of the week honor Monday as sophomore punter Eric Enderson was named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Hens' 10-7 non-conference setback to Sacred Heart.
Enderson, a criminal justice major from Hampton, Va. (Phoebus High School), had a spectacular day in the loss as he punted seven times for a 46.9 yard average and had three punts land inside the Sacred Heart 20-yard line. He also booted three punts of 50 or more yards, including a season-long 59-yarder.
A freshman All-American and second team All-CAA selection a year ago as a redshirt freshman, Enderson is once again one of the top punters in the nation. He currently averages 44.8 yards per punt this season to rank second in the CAA and No. 6 among all NCAA FCS punters.
During the 2013 season, Enderson led all CAA punters and ranked No. 3 in the nation with a school-record 45.0-yard average, easily breaking the previous UD mark of 42.8. His average was the best for a CAA punter since 2008.
Delaware (3-2, 1-0 CAA) will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday when the Blue Hens host CAA newcomer Elon (1-4, 0-1 CAA) at 3:30 p.m. at Delaware Stadium for Parents & Family Weekend.
Plenty of great seats are available for the game and can be purchased at www.bluehens.com, via phone (302-831-2257), at the Bob Carpenter Center Tickets Office, or purchased at the gate the day of the game. A season-high crowd is expected.
