PHILADELPHIA -- University of Delaware senior tight end Nick Boyle, who enjoyed one of the finest careers ever by a tight end for the Blue Hens over the past four years, was rewarded Tuesday when he was named a third team All-American by The Sports Network.
Considered by many to be the most prestigious of the NCAA FCS postseason All-American teams, Boyle becomes the first Delaware tight end to earn All-American honors since former NFL player Ben
Patrick was a consensus first team pick in 2006.
Boyle earned his second All-American notice in two days after being tabbed a third team All-American by Beyond Sports Network on Monday.
A 6-6, 270 lb. senior tight end from Wantage, N.J. (High Point Regional High School), Boyle is also a top National Football League Draft prospect who will play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 20 in Mobile, Ala.
An economics major, Boyle capped an outstanding career as a three-year starter in 2014 as he became the most prolific pass-catching tight end in Delaware history.
As a senior this fall, he caught 37 passes for 304 yards and a team-high four touchdowns and earned first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors.
He earned second team All-CAA honors as a junior in 2013 when he caught 42 passes for 474 yards and seven touchdowns.
His 101 career receptions is a Delaware record for tight ends while his 984 pass receiving yards and 12 touchdowns both rank No. 2 all-time among UD tight ends.
Boyle was one of 12 CAA players selected to the TSN All-American team, joining first teamers in QB John Robertson (Villanova), FB Seth Fisher (Richmond), WR R.J. Harris (New Hampshire), LB Don Cherry (Villanova), and DB Christian Ricard (Stony Brook); second-teamer, TE Harold Spears (New Hampshire); and third team selections, OL Mike Coccia (New Hampshire), OL Vince Kowalski (Villanova), DE Sage Harold (James Madison), DE Mike Reilly (William & Mary), and CB Tye Smith (Towson).
