LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men's lacrosse squad, fresh off a season-opening 10-3 victory over High Point last Saturday, will be looking to go 2-0 Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens travel to take on No. 15 (USILA) Bucknell at 5 p.m.
Delaware, which won its 12th straight season-opener last week for head coach Bob Shillinglaw, will be taking on a nationally-ranked Bison team that will be making its season opener. Bucknell is ranked No. 15 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Warrior Media Poll.
The Blue Hens (1-0) will be looking to avenge last year's tough 9-8 setback to Bucknell at Delaware Stadium. In suffering the loss, Delaware had a 21-game win streak over the Bison that dated back to 1974 snapped. The Blue Hens still lead the series 24-4.
Delaware, one of the nation's youngest teams with 19 true freshmen on the roster, enjoyed an outstanding debut last week as the Hens jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back in downing High Point for the second straight year. Sophomore goalkeeper Conor Peaks led an impressive defensive showing with a career-high tying 15 saves while Jeff Heath and Steve Delargy each netted two goals.
Bucknell, led by head coach Frank Fedorjaka, returns seven starters and 25 lettermen from last year's team that went 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League. Leading the squad is All-American attackman/midfielder Jackson Place and 2013 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Sean Doyle.
Delaware will return home next Saturday, Feb. 15, to host Fairfield at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
